Ms. Schroeder's third grade students are using iPads to practice their addition facts with an app called Sushi Monster. Students must determine whole number addends (pieces of sushi) that, when added, compose a whole number given by the Sushi Monster. If those addends equal to the given whole number, the Sushi Monster chomps it down and points are earned.
Students are applying mental math strategies they've learned in class. This activity supports the automatic recall of addition facts. The students are learning to use their math facts efficiently and accurately, all while having a fun time at an increased level of engagement!
