JVE students in Kindergarten through fifth grade recently participated in a nationwide "Hour of Code" event sponsored by Code.org, an organization dedicated to expanding participation in computer science. Our students and teachers spent one hour learning how to use blocks of code to control the actions of characters in a game. By dragging and dropping commands, then viewing the "hidden code" in the command blocks, they learned the basics of how programmers create games and other software. Coding allows students to develop important strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas! |
